Fr. Jeremiah O’Connell Society

Over 130 years ago, Fr. Jeremiah O’Connell firmly set into motion the vision of creating an authentic Catholic college by purchasing through a bankruptcy sale, the Caldwell farm located in Gaston County, NC.  Seeking the help of the territory’s bishop and future Cardinal James Gibbons, O’Connell moved forward with finding a religious order to carry out his vision that “Nowhere on the continent could be found another place better suited for a religious and literary institution than this.”

Beginning with $10 and a dream, O’Connell created a lasting legacy of changing lives for the better with the establishment of Belmont Abbey College.  This effort continues today under the leadership, efforts, and daily sacrifice of the Benedictine monks of Belmont Abbey.

The Fr. Jeremiah O’Connell Society recognizes all donors who have chosen to set up a monthly bank draft or credit card gift at $10 or higher.  Your monthly gift will be used wisely in keeping with the College’s mission of offering a Christ centered education within the Catholic faith. 

What may appear to be small is in fact, a life changing act of generosity each month to the development of our current scholars. Your monthly gift assists the college in serving its mission of educating each student in mind, body, and spirit throughout the year.
